Newts Plans for parts of the Drug War

Newt was at the Books-a-Million in Naples Fl on Fri where he met approximately 650 fans and a few reporters. The interview that he gave to Chris Moody of Yahoo revealed some very interesting nuggets and might have the very basis of why Newt might be able to sew up the nomination by being Not Mitt Romney.

During his interview he talked about drug use and what he believes we need to do to curb and eventually eliminate drug use in this country. I do believe that this might be the best part of his interview.

Speaking of Ron Paul, at the last debate, he said that the war on drugs has been an utter failure. We’ve spent billions of dollars since President Nixon and we still have rising levels of drug use. Should we continue down the same path given the amount of money we’ve spent? How can we reform our approach?
I think that we need to consider taking more explicit steps to make it expensive to be a drug user. It could be through testing before you get any kind of federal aid. Unemployment compensation, food stamps, you name it.

Personally we here at The Handbook are all for the use of drug testing for anyone that wants any kind of federal aid. To say that it violates the 4th amendment is also liberal crap. If you don’t want to be tested that’s fine, no one is forcing you to get tested. All that is being said is that if you want the government to support you, well your going to have to follow some rules.

People in the military have to have drug tests, most jobs require it periodically, hell even Wal-Mart makes you have one before they will hire you.

So question to everyone out there with a job: How many of you had/have to take drug tests to get/continue employment?

I’m willing to be that it’s most people out there.

Maybe just maybe after we get this passed we can get a bill passed that forces all elected officials to have to take them as well. I’m looking at you congress.

  1. Anonymous says:

Everyone employed on govt dime is required to random drug testing.
I see no problem with changing that to “everyone on govt dime period”
With an exception for disability due to the necessity of meds, of course.
